Open Burn Policies
Montville Fire Department requires a Burn Permit for open burn.  These permits are valid for 30 days.  Permits can be obtained at the Fire Station.  Depending on the situation, an on-site inspection may be needed before a permit will be issued.  The permit will be valid for yard waste only.  Shingles, roofing material or any non-organic material will not be allowed.  If burning, any source of extinguishment is required close by such as a fire extinguisher or garden hose.
Ohio Revised Code 1503.18 Ohio DNR Forestry prohibits outdoor open burning and prescribed fires in the months of March, April, May, October and November between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm.  This ban includes burning of yard waste, trash and debris, even in a proper burn barrel.  Even outside the time and date restrictions, any person conducting a burn must obtain landowner permission, remain with the fire while it is burning and take all reasonable precautions to prevent the fire from escaping.
Permits are not valid for Commercial Property.

You can pick up your free burn permit at the fire station any Tuesday from 6:00 pm-9:00 pm

Fire Prevention

On January 15, 2013, the trustees passed a resolution to adopt the 2011 Ohio Building Code and 2011 Ohio Fire Code and all subsequent future codes.  The Fire Prevention Division of Montville Fire Department will be conducting inspections of all businesses within the township.  Letters will be sent to the businesses informing them of the two-step process:

  • Year 1 & 2 will be voluntary inspections working with the business owners to understand the codes and assisting them with being compliant.
  • After Year 2, there will be regular inspections with code enforcement.

Accepting Applications

The fire department is accepting applications for Cadets, Firefighters and EMT’s.  We provide basic training.  Interested candidates can stop by the station on Tuesday evenings after 6:30 p.m. for an application or print it using the document below.
